Winston Foster OD, more widely known by his stage name ‘Yellowman’ is a native of Jamaica and is widely popular as a reggae and dancehall deejay. He is also lovingly referred to as King Yellowman and started his singing career in Jamaica in the early 1980’s.
He rose to prominence when he released a string of singles and carved a distinct niche for himself with his distinctive style of singing.
What Disease Did Yellowman Have?
When he was young he suffered from albinism and despite the non-contagious nature of the disease he was shunned by his community in Jamaica. In 1982 he was diagnosed with skin cancer and had to undergo a series of surgeries and it brought a hiccup to his career. However, his cancer went into remission.

In 1986 Yelowman’s cancer once again relapsed and it was discovered that the cancer had undergone metastasis and spread to his jaw. Yelowman had to undergo invasive surgery and a part of his jaw had to be removed. This permanently disfigured his face since a large part of his lower jaw had to be removed to remove the malignancy.
It was diagnosed that the cancer had spread to his jaw; Yellowman underwent very invasive jaw surgery to remove a malignant tumor. This surgery permanently disfigured Yellowman’s face, as a large portion of the left side of his lower jaw had to be removed to successfully remove the tumor.

Winston Foster OD a.k.a. Yellowman had a troubled childhood when he was abandoned by his parents and spent his early years in Maxfield Children’s Home and the Catholic orphanage Alpha Boys School in Kingston.
He suffered from albinism and was shunned socially. However these trials and tribulations hardened his resolve and his first brush with success was when he stood second against Nadine Sutherland in the 1978 Tastee Talent Contest. He gained popularity and recognition and with hard work and dedication became a well known singing and dancing star in native Jamaica.
He also gained recognition when he became the first dancehall artist to be signed to a major American label Columbia Records.
Among his notable albums was Zungguzungguguzungguzeng in 1983 which became hugely popular. However the sleazy lyrics in popular songs like “Mad over me” also earned him a fair share of brickbats.
