USA Saw The Two Presidential Hopefuls Locking Horns In A TV Debate, Trump Is Clear Winner

The voters in the USA saw the two presidential hopefuls locking horns in what was to become the first public debate before the November 5 election.

Former US President Donald Trump, 78, hurled one beamer after another at US President Joe Biden, who seemed to be woefully short of living up to the occasion.

After the debate, the Democrats seemed to be in a panic, while the Republicans were upbeat. The debate focused on a number of issues, which included a comparison of Biden and Trump’s economic records, Biden’s health issues and the question of whether he is fit to lead the nation, immigration, abortion, and even golf.

The debate saw heated exchanges between President Joe Biden and his Republican rival, Donald Trump, and post-debate polls revealed Trump as the winner of the debate. CNN polls show that 67% of the voters support Trump, while only 33% support Biden. Compare this with CNN’s poll after the final 2020 presidential debate, indicating that 53% of viewers felt Biden won, compared to 39% who thought Trump won.

Another media bigwig, the New York Times, declared Trump the winner and criticized Biden for being woefully incoherent.

The few supporters Biden managed to get were from Vice President Kamala Harris, who did agree that Biden’s start was slow, but he returned strongly in the end.

The debate between the two presidential candidates was held by CNN and touched on several issues including inflation, immigration, abortion rights, and foreign policy. Trump made a scathing attack on the abortion policies of Biden and said that the present government supported late abortions.

He compared it to ripping fully grown babies apart, a fact which was far from the truth.

Experts contend that only 1% of abortions in the USA are done in fetuses beyond 2 months and that too when there is a medical emergency.

TV debates have a big impact on the fortunes of presidential hopefuls. The first televised debate happened in 1960 when JFK Kennedy trounced Richard Nixon and was also one of the factors that helped Kennedy beat Nixon in the polls that year.

Most experts felt that Trump was the clear winner in this debate.

The location of the debate at CNN’s studios in Atlanta, Georgia, was also significant since it brought into focus the all-important Georgia voters. Biden could manage a pathetic win by fewer than 12,000 votes in 2020.
