National Law Day popularly known as Constitution day is celebrated on 26th November every year. It is the day when the Constitution of India was adopted. In 1946, Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution of India but it came into its force on 26th January 1959. Yes, it is on Republic Day.
Every year, National Law Day is celebrated in the Parliament hall as a part of Parliament as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. President of India Droupadi Murmu presides over the event along with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with other delegates is also a part of the event. Kiren Rijiju Law Minister last year launched an online course on the Indian Constitution as a part of the Constitution Day celebration.
In 2015, Union Cabinet Minister announced that 26th November will be celebrated as National Law Day in order to promote constitutional values amongst the people of our country.
National Law Day Significance
Back in 2015, the Prime Minister of India observed 26th November as National Law Day. It decision was made as a celebration of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar. The reason behind this is to teach residents of India the importance of the Indian Constitution along with its backbone, Dr. BR Ambedkar.
History
The body that is meant to draft Constitution, Constituent Assembly organized its first session in 1946. This Assembly took almost 3 years to completely draft the document. Out of all-around 114 days were used just to finalize the content to be drafted. During that time, then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru shifted. Later it was adopted as the Preamble on 22nd January 1947.
Ambedkar was the one who chaired the Drafting Committee. It was done with 17 committees of the Constituent Assembly. The main aim was to draft the constitution of the country.
