Missing Averett University Professor, David Hanbury Found Dead

An Averett University professor, David Hanbury, was reported missing on March 15 after attending a conference in Florida. However, it has been announced that the university professor has passed away.

Orlando Police informed that the cause of the death hasn’t been investigated yet. Police added, at the time, that the cause of death did not appear suspicious, as reported by WSLS.

The family members of Dr. David Hanbury confirmed his passing on Sunday afternoon.

The university stated that Dr. David Hanbury was last seen on the evening of March 15, Friday, attending the Southeastern Psychological Association Conference.

However, the circumstances surrounding the professor’s disappearance or demise have not been shared by the university yet.

Dr. Tiffany Franks, the Averett University President, in a statement concerning David’s ultimate demise, stated the following:

“Averett University is saddened to share the heartbreaking update of the passing of Dr. David Hanbury. As per our earlier statement, Dr. Hanbury was reported missing from a conference in Orlando, and an active investigation was underway to locate him. We received confirmation of his passing from his family this afternoon. On behalf of the entire Averett University community, we send our affection, condolences, and prayers of support to Dr. Hanbury’s family, friends, and all others upon whom he had a lasting impact.”

Who was David Hanbury?

David Hanbury was the co-chair of the Department of Psychology and was an associate professor. According to Averett University, he also served as the chair for the “Division of Physical and Psychological Health Sciences.”

According to WSET, the university has organized a vigil, a time of prayer, and support. The surrounding community along with the campus is invited to attend the same.

In a statement, the University wrote,

“On behalf of the entire Averett University community, we send our affection, condolences, and prayers of support to Dr. Hanbury’s family, friends, and all others upon whom he had a lasting impact.”

The university stated that the vigil would be organized on the Averett Student Center lawn at 351 Townes Street at 6 p.m. on March 18.
