The festival was first organized in Alabama, not in Louisiana. Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville. A french- Canadian explorer arrived in 1699 in Mobile, Alabama. He organized a little party in the city and named it
Point du Mardi Gras. Later as time went ahead, many french travelers would arrive to celebrate right before Fat Tuesday. It has been claimed that Alabama is the oldest celebration in United States history.
As per ancient culture and stories, in 1872 Grand Duke Alexis visited America, he was welcomed by green, gold, and purple beads. As these were the colors of his house. Now the shades denote the Mardi Gras festivities and were later given meaning to every colour – green for faith, purple for justice and gold for power.
