Eid Milad-un-Nabi, known as Eid-e-Milad, is an extremely important festival for Muslims. This day is celebrated as the birthday anniversary of Prophet Mohammad and is joyously celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm. It is also known as Mawlid and Nabi, celebrated on the 12th day of the month of Rabi ul Awwal.
According to the Islamic calendar, Eid-e-Milad falls on the 12th day of Rabi ul Awwal. In 2024, the moon of Rabi ul Awwal was seen on September 4, so Eid-e-Milad will fall on September 16 this year.
It was mourned as a day of sorrow for the death of Prophet Mohammad on the 12th of Rabi al-Awwal. The Fatimid Caliphs established this day as a festival in the 10th century. As the birthday of the Prophet started to be rejoiced by the Shia Fatimid dynasty, the day started to be celebrated with public gatherings, prayers, and poetry.
Processions, charity, and community feasts came to be inclusions with time in this day. The festival indeed turned out to be an event for the Muslims where deep reflection upon the saying of the Prophet, considering the community ties, is engaged in by them. Today Eid-e-Milad is celebrated worldwide with eagerness.
People celebrate Eid-e-Milad by cleaning their houses and the streets, and by decorating mosques in India. Special prayers are offered on this day and processions are also taken out with light candles. Wearing new clothes, people distribute sweets to one another.
Celebrate Eid Milad-un-Nabi 2024 with messages, images, and greetings honoring Prophet Muhammad’s birthday on September 16.
