Instagram Influencer and Yoga Expert Archana Makwana Given Police Protection After Receiving Death Threats for Posting Yoga Pictures from Golden Temple
Archana Makwana, a prominent fashion designer who operates a fashion design brand named House Of Archana in Vadodara, found herself amid controversy when she performed meditation and a headstand (“Sirsasana”) on the premises of the Golden Temple on June 21, on the occasion of ‘Internartional Yoga Day’.
Archana Makwana Given Police Protection After Death Threats
Her actions did not sit well with the Sikh community, and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) registered a complaint with the Punjab Police against Makwana on Saturday for hurting religious sentiments. Following the complaint, the Punjab Police initiated action against Ms. Makwana.
Makwana is also associated with the brand ‘Healing Tattvas’ and documents her travel experiences as a blogger. She has 140k followers on Instagram.
According to a report, the influencer has also been receiving death threats online for performing yoga poses at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, and subsequently has been provided with police protection by the Gujarat Government.
The Gujarat police have also advised her to remain at home and avoid travel because of the death threats.
Ms. Makwana promptly removed the pictures and also posted a video apology on Saturday.
Talking to TOI, she said,
“The world was celebrating International Yoga Day, so I thought performing a Shirsasana at such a holy site would convey a message of unity and fitness. I never imagined it would offend anyone.”
